What besides good insulation?
The cheapest energy is the energy you don't use. Insulating, especially roof insulation, is one of the most recommended ways to use less heating, but what else can you do to reduce your energy consumption? We are happy to list a number of tips. This way, you can quickly save a lot and reduce those high energy bills.
Turn your heating down a bit:
This is a golden tip that can save you up to €200 on your energy bill annually. Even small adjustments can make a big difference. For example, wear a thick sweater indoors more often, turn off the heating an hour earlier, make sure you don't heat too much in the summer, ensure no windows are open when your heating is on, …
Ensure low humidity:
The higher the humidity in the house, the slower the space heats up, and the more energy you consume. So make sure to ventilate your home daily, especially when you also hang the laundry inside to dry. Make sure all heating is off when you open your windows to ventilate. Otherwise, you will lose heat and therefore energy again.
Limit heat loss:
Heat can escape in many ways. To avoid heat loss, there are several things you can pay attention to. Keep windows and doors closed. Close shutters and/or curtains, this retains heat better. Besides soundproofing or light-blocking properties, shutters and curtains also have an insulating effect. Furthermore, you can seal the gaps of doors and windows with special tape, place separate thermostatic valves on your radiator, …
Reduce standby consumption:
Devices that remain on also consume energy. Minimize this consumption by, for example, installing a mechanical timer, using a power strip with a switch, turning off electronic equipment in the evening, … This way, you can save up to €75 annually.
Consider a group purchase:
Do you have a variable energy contract? Then it pays to consider switching to a group purchase. However, if you have an energy bill with a fixed rate, switching is not the best choice. Then wait until your contract expires.
Compare different rates:
Do you receive a rate proposal from a group purchase or another energy supplier? Then it is wise to always check these prices via the V-test of the VREG or the CREG-scan. This way, you will discover whether or not you can conclude a more favorable energy contract.
Invest in sustainable energy:
Solar panels, a heat pump, a solar water heater, new insulation, … These are a handful of ways to gain control over your energy production and consumption. Solar panels are an excellent investment that you can recoup in a relatively short period. They are a huge help for the environment, and you save a lot of unnecessary costs with them.
